Goals can be achieved

So, I just got back from Police tryouts for my states capital. I failed at the test, and not just because I am overweight. No, it was because I gave up before I even got there. I don’t care if your writing your first novel, tenth novel, or something that doesn’t do with writing. Your mind is what controls mostly if you achieve the goal or not.

Dr. Stacia D. Kelly wrote a book, Muse, in which teaches you how to get to the most out of your brain. That will help a lot of people get the most out of them if they are already positive about what they are dealing with. If you want to know about how to get the most out of you brain read her book, but if you need help getting to that point you need to change your mind first.

Yes, I said change, I know a scary word. I hate that word myself, but am working on it to become a better person. You can’t have a closed mind to write, to achieve a goal you have set forth, or a new job. Well, we could talk about how you will try to open you mind, but what good will that do if don’t know how. Take a deep breathe, it’s okay not everybody can get outside their “bubble” on their first attempt. For example my girlfriend is a person that tries to control everything, in which can cause great problems. I have worked with her for several years now opening her more up to new ideas and trying not to have her control everything. Like in golf, one shot at a time. Now that she is getting better at accepting days by days, she has more and more exciting things happening all the time.

Try something new and exciting. This might give you new ideas how to complete something, and thus giving you a fighting chance before you think about giving up. Don’t say no to something you never tried before. Dr. Stacia once told me to try taking pictures of people from online and photo-shopping them to make them mine. That was the best idea I have ever taken. Even when I get that tragic writers block, I go and work on one of the character pictures, or a map of the world they are in, and soon enough I am writing once again. See, you have all these goals, and already in your mind you are set on one way to get it done. Guess what, there are always several ways to get that one goal achieved.

Here’s a way to help you get out of that “bubble.” Yes, this is where I compare it to golf, don’t run from this due to that, it is easy to understand even if you don’t know what golf is. So you are are that first hole, right. So first you have to determine where the hole is. That is your goal you want to achieve. So you got the hole location. Now you need to figure the distance to hit the ball, this would be the time that it takes to get the goal achieved. Now you hit the ball and start to try to get to your goal. Your first choice was either helpful to get to your goal or it landed in rough. So you need to pick another way to get the rest of way to the hole or the goal if golf is not your thing. So you might find more rough or a sand trap, maybe even water. (other things that get in your goals way) So you need to keep trying different shots. (different approaches to achieve the goal.) You will eventually reach the green and be really close to finishing. You might realize there is divots or ball marks, peoples shoe prints in your way to your hole. (non golfers this would be that big thing that tries to block you from your goal and wants you to just go back to your old ways.) You will get through those, it just might take another approach or longer then expected to finish the hole, but you did it. You have achieve that long goal from a distance, now unfortunately you have the whole golf course to play yet. (non golfers this would be where you go for that next goal and make even border choices.) You will hit the rough more times, you might even get on the wrong hole once in awhile, but just keep playing till you get that goal achieved.

The biggest problem I see when people are trying to achieve a goal is they don’t want to put the work in it. I am a victim of that also. We are lazy, maybe not physically, but mentally we like to be lazy. Your brain is like another muscle you must keep it working, and sometime jump starting that with new ways. We all are capable of doing whatever you want to do. The only obstacle in the way is you.

We love hearing your thoughts and maybe they will help more people with their goals. What do you do to achieve your goals?
